Hotel Workers Threaten Strike Over Contract Violations in Cyprus

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Tensions continue to escalate within Cyprus’s hotel industry as union leaders accuse employers of failing to uphold collective agreements, threatening strike action in response.

Speaking on state radio, Michalis Fragou, Secretary General of the Hotel Workers Confederation said unions have long protested breaches of worker contracts.

Tourism remains one of the most vital contributors to Cyprus’s economy, accounting for a significant portion of gross domestic product and employment.

The industry plays a key role in regional development, particularly in coastal areas like Limassol, Paphos and Ayia Napa.
