The Health Insurance Organization (HIO) and Cyprus Police issued a fresh warning Monday to beneficiaries of the General Healthcare System (GESY), saying fraudulent text messages impersonating the system continue to circulate.
In a joint statement, the HIO and police urged the public to be especially cautious and to delete such messages immediately without opening any links they contain.
The messages use the name “GESY” or other names referencing health service providers in an attempt to appear as if they come from the healthcare system, the statement said. In some cases, the messages may even appear beneath legitimate messages previously sent by GESY to beneficiaries.
The HIO stressed that it will never ask beneficiaries for passwords, login details, payment information or other personal data via text message. It also clarified that it will never ask citizens to carry out any financial transaction through links included in text messages.
The HIO and police urged citizens who receive such messages not to open the link and to delete the SMS immediately.
