Cyprus’ Education Ministry is backing a series of measures to keep schools running and strengthen them in remote border communities, Education Minister Athena Michaelidou said.
During a visit to schools in Kato Pyrgos in the Tillyria area, Michaelidou said schools in such areas must function successfully because, in her words, they are essentially the lifeblood of those communities.
She said the ministry has already granted a series of exemptions in Kato Pyrgos and other border areas, covering preschool, primary and secondary education, so classes can continue normally even when there is only one student.
Michaelidou also referred to support being provided for school facilities and equipment.
