Cyprus to install 75 escape ramps to prevent animal drownings in reservoirs

The Cyprus Department of Forests has signed a contract to build and install 75 animal escape ramps at reservoirs across the island.

The move follows a series of incidents in which wild and stray animals drowned after becoming trapped in reservoirs with steep or slippery banks.

Officials said the ramps are designed to give animals a way to climb out of the water before becoming exhausted and drowning.
