The country’s meteorological institute says that the average temperature of 25.02 degrees last year is 0.79 degrees above the average for the period 1991–2010. The annual average has never been higher since measurements began in 1961.
The announcement of the record comes after the South American country has experienced both drought and flood records, which climate experts link to global warming.
