Cyprus ranks first among EU countries in terms of refugee arrival and departure rate in 2024 with 179 percent.

The data was reveled when Interior Minister Konstantinos Yoannu and Migration Undersecretary Nikolas Yoannidis held a joint press conference and presented the government’s strategy for managing the migration problem.

Based on the data, it is reported the number of refugees leaving the country in 2024 stood at 10,941.

Yoannu also noted in his statement that a record 21,565 political asylum applications were made in 2022, and that 17,028 refugees came to the country in the same year.

Yoannu also argued that 95 percent of these people came to the country via the Green Line – the land border splitting the etnically divided island.
