American actress Raquel Welch has been spotted on the streets of Cyprus filming “The Beloved” presently being shot on the island under the direction of George Pan Cosmatos of Greece.
British actor Richard Johnson plays opposite Miss Welch with another British actor, Jack Hawkins, in a supporting role.
Raquel Welch plays a Greek peasant wife who takes Richard Johnson as a lover when her husband, played by German actor Frank Wolff, becomes inattentive.
Welch has been rising at 5.30 most mornings, doing her own make-up, and then making the 40-minute journey to the hillside village of Karmi, where the film is being shot.
Jack Hawkins is the village priest, Father Nicolas. His part, which his wife Doreen has described as “a bit of an Archbishop Makarios role,” will see his words dubbed by another actor.
