Who is Marina Makris, the rising star from Cyprus?

Marina Makris, a dazzling star from Cyprus, is making headlines in the European film industry.

This week, she was crowned one of the ten European Shooting Stars 2025 at the 75th Berlinale International Film Festival.

Over the past few years, Makris has entranced audiences with her “Mediterranean magnetism” and compelling performances.

She shines in Cyprus-led films such as “Jiu Jitsu,” alongside Nicholas Cage, and “Africa Star” by Adonis Florides, which won her Best Actress at Cyprus Film Days 2024.

This week, the Berlinale jury praised her as a “brilliant, intelligent actress” with an “intense, profound look” and a “womanly strength” that makes her stand out.

Joining the ranks of  other Cypriot talents, Christos Georgiou stands out for his roles in “Small Crime” and “Happy Birthday,” while Maria Kitsou earns acclaim for her performances in “The Last Note” and “The Waiter.”
