Police made nine arrests overnight during coordinated preventive patrols across the island targeting key urban areas, authorities said Sunday. The operations aimed to prevent serious crime, maintain public order and boost residents’ sense of security.
The nine arrests stemmed from a range of offenses, including building break-ins and theft, public intoxication, insulting behavior and causing a disturbance in a public place, illegal residence in the Republic, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the overnight operations, police stopped 620 vehicles for checks and screened 871 occupants. Officers also carried out 57 inspections of premises aimed at addressing criminal activity, resulting in nine complaints filed.
Traffic enforcement checks produced 353 citations for various violations, along with 18 cases still under investigation. Twenty-one vehicles were impounded as part of the police inquiries.
Of the traffic citations issued, 79 were for speeding and 25 were for driving under the influence of alcohol. Preliminary drug tests also led to three cases of suspected drugged driving. Police conducted 338 alcohol checks on drivers and eight drug tests during the operations.
Police said the crime-prevention and enforcement operations will continue daily, with an increased police presence, targeted checks and rapid operational response aimed at protecting the public and maintaining order.
