Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday as Türkiye intensified efforts to mediate a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
Following their meeting, Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s support for Russia-Ukraine peace talks, including hosting negotiations to ensure lasting peace.
“We want this war, which has cost the lives of hundreds of thousands, to end,” he said.
Erdogan emphasized the need for an inclusive peace process, mentioning recent talks in Saudi Arabia.
He stressed the importance of involving all relevant parties, including Ukraine, in the negotiations. Earlier, Lavrov also met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and stated Russia remains open to negotiations but will continue military operations until a firm result is achieved.
