The recent actions of the Game and Fauna Service in Cyprus highlight their commitment to wildlife conservation and the enforcement of hunting regulations.
With eleven individuals reported for various hunting violations last week, including illegal bird trapping and the use of prohibited electronic bird calls, the Service is taking decisive steps to address these serious issues.
This must be applauded.
Among the offenders, three hunters were caught operating in restricted hunting areas in the communities of Analiontas and Choirokoitia, with one using an electronic device that mimics bird calls.

In separate incidents, three additional individuals were reported for using electronic bird calling devices, and four others were found transporting disassembled hunting rifles outside their cases in vehicles.
These actions not only violate hunting regulations but also pose a threat to the delicate balance of Cyprus’ ecosystems.
The Game and Fauna Service’s efforts to crack down on these violations are commendable.
By holding individuals accountable for their actions, they are reinforcing the importance of responsible hunting practices and the protection of wildlife.
This proactive stance serves as a crucial reminder that the preservation of our natural heritage requires constant vigilance and strict enforcement of regulations.
