FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Council of Ministers approved €8 million in extraordinary state aid for Provincial Government Organizations (PGOs) and communities to reduce water supply losses caused by outdated networks.

The government also earmarked €1 million annually from 2025-2027 for remote communities outside PGOs, alongside plans to support the installation of small private desalination units in hotels and simplify the licensing process for units up to 1,500 cubic meters.

Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Agriculture Maria Panagiotou emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing chronic water issues, including losses estimated at 35%-40%.

She noted that European funds will cover most of the aid and highlighted the importance of these measures in tackling water shortages effectively.
