FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Sweden recorded its lowest number of murders and manslaughters in 10 years, with 92 cases reported in 2024, according to Sweden’s Crime Prevention Council.

This marks a significant drop from 2023, which saw 121 cases, and the lowest figure since 2014, when 87 cases were reported.

The Council advises caution in comparisons, noting the unusually high number of fatalities in 2023.

Swedish police attribute the decline to improved surveillance.

Despite the decrease, shootings remain the leading cause of homicide, claiming 45 lives in 2024.
