FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The United Nations has raised alarm over deteriorating conditions in Gaza, as aid blockades force the closure of 25 bakeries and supplies dwindle.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported Tuesday that bakeries supported by the World Food Programme (WFP) have shut down due to severe shortages of flour and cooking gas.
Food distribution continues, but with limited stock, the situation remains critical.
Israeli evacuation orders have displaced thousands, with the latest directive affecting nearly the entire Rafah governorate, where 150,000 civilians had sought refuge. OCHA warned that hostilities and limited access to essential services are leaving families exposed and vulnerable.
Meanwhile, the recovery of 15 aid workers’ bodies in Rafah marked the conclusion of a week-long rescue operation. OCHA stated the workers were killed on March 23 during an Israeli ground operation, with emergency vehicles and clearly marked UN cars struck during attempts to recover colleagues.
