FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A nationwide blackout occurred Tuesday evening due to a malfunction in Syria’s electrical system, the General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Corporation reported.

Khaled Abu Dai, head of the organization, said the fault in the national grid caused the outage and assured repair efforts are underway.

Monitoring group Sawt al-Asima attributed the failure to issues in high-voltage lines in southern Syria, which led turbines at power stations to shut down, triggering widespread strain on the network.

As turbines in Aleppo’s power plant also went offline, much of the country was plunged into darkness. Sawt al-Asima indicated repairs could take several hours, with restoration potentially extending into the early morning.

Authorities continue to work to address the critical disruption.
