FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Spanish broadcaster RTVE has formally requested the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to open a discussion regarding Israel’s participation in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in May.
The request, made by RTVE President José Pablo López, reflects concerns over the ongoing situation in Gaza.
RTVE emphasized the importance of acknowledging the debate and providing a platform for reflection among member broadcasters.
This follows similar calls from Slovenia’s national broadcaster, which also questioned Israel’s involvement in the competition.
The Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place in Basel, Switzerland, continues to face scrutiny as geopolitical tensions influence public sentiment.
