FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Police have arrested two suspects, aged 17 and 18, in connection with an investigation into illegal possession of explosives, and property damage in Larnaca.

Authorities launched the probe after receiving reports early Sunday of a fire in garbage bins near a high school. Officers arrived at the scene to find five bins ablaze.

Shortly after, police were alerted to an alarm sounding at a nearby elementary school, where investigators later discovered damage to a classroom door.

Officials believe an improvised incendiary device, likely thrown with a firecracker, caused the destruction.

Testimony obtained during the investigation led to the arrests, carried out under court warrants.

The suspects remain in custody ahead of a scheduled court appearance on Wednesday.

The Aradippou Police Station continues to investigate the case.
