Drug mule, 28, passed 110 cocaine packets after Cyprus airport arrest

A 28-year-old man has appeared in court after excreting 110 packets of cocaine, weighing more than a kilogram in total, following his arrest at Larnaca Airport earlier this month.

The suspect was detained on July 6 in a joint swoop by Cyprus’s Drug Squad (YKAN) and the Customs Department, part of an intelligence-led operation targeting drug importers.

He was rushed to Larnaca General Hospital, where he remained under guard while doctors waited for him to pass the remaining packets, said to weigh 1.11kg in total, concealed inside his body.

Once the process was complete, he was discharged from hospital and brought before Larnaca District Court, which remanded him in custody and referred the case to the Criminal Court. He is due back in the dock on October 5.

Police said the investigation into how the drugs entered the country, and who was behind the smuggling attempt, was continuing.
