Cyprus’s Commissioner of Agricultural Payments, Andreas Kyprianou, has met with Democratic Party (DIKO) leader Nikolas Papadopoulos, as part of an ongoing round of consultations with political parties on progress made and priorities for the period ahead.
The two discussed key issues affecting farmers, including faster payments, reduced bureaucracy, simpler procedures and better use of EU funds for growers and livestock producers. Talks also touched on planning for the next Common Agricultural Policy, boosting competitiveness in the primary sector and expanding support schemes to give producers more opportunities.
Mr Kyprianou outlined the steps taken since the two last met a year ago, along with ongoing efforts to harness digital tools and artificial intelligence to speed up services for beneficiaries, improve inspections and strengthen the agency’s operations.
Mr Papadopoulos reiterated DIKO’s support for the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organisation and welcomed the continued cooperation between the two sides, stressing the importance of a strong primary sector for the country’s economy.
The meeting concluded on a constructive note, with both men committing to continued collaboration for the benefit of Cyprus’s farmers and rural economy.
