FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation Tuesday to address ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The leaders discussed mediation efforts aimed at restoring calm in the region, highlighting the potential benefits for Red Sea navigation and the prevention of economic losses.

Both presidents emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation for mutual interests.

The conversation comes amid escalating conflict, with the U.S. military resuming airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since March 15.

Despite these efforts, Houthi attacks on Israeli targets and U.S. vessels in the Red Sea have persisted following Israel’s renewed military operations in Gaza.

Earlier in March, al-Sisi revealed that the Suez Canal has suffered monthly revenue losses of approximately $800 million due to regional instability.
