Mehmet Kıstı, the 47-year-old driver who caused the death of 32-year-old pedestrian Buğra Kılıç on the Famagusta-Nicosia main road and fled the scene this week, has been arrested and brought before a court in northern Cyprus.

He has been remanded for two days.

Background

The incident occurred around 00:30 near the Çanakkale Reservoir when Kılıç lost his life on Monday.

A then unidentified driver, operating a vehicle with an unknown license plate in the left lane heading west, struck Buğra Kılıç, who was walking on the road.

The impact caused Kılıç to be thrown forward and into the left lane.

Shortly after, Berkcan Lisani, a 28-year-old driver, traveling in the same direction in the left lane, struck Kılıç with his vehicle.

Lisani’s vehicle subsequently veered off to the left side of the road and came to a stop.
