Traffic accidents in northern Cyprus leave 21 injured

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A total of 73 traffic accidents occurred in northern Cyprus between June 9 and 15, leaving 21 people injured, authorities said.

Speeding remained the leading cause of accidents and traffic violations.

Of the reported accidents, 15 resulted in injuries, while 58 caused property damage. The total financial loss was estimated at approximately 58,960 euros.

Police identified the primary causes as speeding (24 cases), reckless driving (17), failure to stop at intersections (13), tailgating (10), and other factors (9).

During traffic inspections, authorities checked 11,960 drivers, issuing 1,860 citations for various violations. Police impounded 168 vehicles and arrested six drivers.

The most common offenses included speeding (533 cases), driving without registration (231), failure to obey traffic signs (151), running red lights (92), and driving without inspection (84).
