Cathay Pacific has ordered 14 additional Boeing 777-9 passenger jets, bringing its total commitment to 35 of the world’s largest twin-engine aircraft, the companies announced last night.
The deal, valued at $8.1 billion at list prices, expands the Hong Kong-based carrier’s long-haul fleet as it prepares to meet growing global travel demand.
The 777-9 is designed to reduce fuel use and emissions by 20% and cut noise by 40% compared to the aircraft it replaces.
Cathay Pacific has operated Boeing’s 777 family for more than 30 years.
The new order aligns with its strategy to modernize operations and strengthen its position as a leading premium airline in the Asia-Pacific region.
The aircraft, which have a range of 7,295 nautical miles, will allow Cathay to connect Hong Kong directly with long-haul destinations worldwide.
Initial deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.
