Beijing has reportedly asked for further simplification of visa procedures for Chinese nationals travelling to Cyprus.
According to Cypriot newspaper Haravgi, the request was raised during a meeting in Beijing between Yao Fei, China’s Deputy Foreign Minister with responsibility for European affairs, and a delegation of Cypriot journalists visiting the country.
The journalists, from the Cypriot press, were reportedly invited to China and visited three cities during their trip, including the capital.
The report said Mr Yao also used the meeting to discuss bilateral relations more broadly, ways of better promoting Cyprus within China, and cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.
He described Cyprus as a safe tourism destination and said Beijing was ready to deepen cooperation with Nicosia on tourism.
