Consumer prices flat in Cyprus in August, services and hospitality rise

NICOSIA — Consumer prices in Cyprus remained unchanged in August compared to the same month last year, according to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) released by the Statistical Service.

The index rose 0.8% from July 2025, driven by increases in services, hospitality, and recreation.

The most significant annual gains were recorded in Restaurants and Hotels (up 5.3%) and Recreation and Culture (up 4.9%). Clothing and Footwear saw the steepest decline, falling 7.5%, followed by Housing, Water Supply, Electricity and Gas, which dropped 4.0%.

From July to August, Recreation and Culture rose 1.8%, while Transport and Restaurants and Hotels each increased by 1.5%.

For the January–August period, prices in Recreation and Culture climbed 6.6% year-on-year, and Restaurants and Hotels rose 5.4%. Clothing and Footwear posted the largest decline over the same period, down 5.9%.

Among economic categories, Energy saw the sharpest annual drop at 9.1%, while Services rose 1.5% month-on-month.
