A 51-year-old builder was killed on a construction site in Paphos after the boom of a concrete pump struck two live overhead power cables, police said.
Konstantinos Posnagkov, a Greek national resident in Cyprus, was carrying out concrete-pouring work on a building under construction in Peyia when the accident occurred. Police said the arm of the pump used to deliver ready-mixed concrete severed the cables under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Mr Posnagkov was taken by ambulance to Paphos General Hospital, where he received emergency treatment but died shortly afterwards from his injuries.
Police have opened an investigation into causing death through a reckless, negligent or dangerous act. Two men have been arrested under court warrants in connection with the case: the site’s building contractor, 46, and the operator of the concrete pump, 53. Both remain in custody.
