Customs officers seized contraband tobacco products and cannabis during routine inspections Sunday at the Agios Dometios crossing point, the Department of Customs announced.

In one incident, officers confiscated 50 packs of 20 heated cigarettes concealed in tissue boxes inside a woman’s vehicle. The goods were undeclared and duty-free. The woman later accepted an out-of-court settlement and paid a €150 fine.

Later that day, another woman was stopped and found to be transporting six cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 1,500 grams of rolling tobacco. The products lacked mandatory health warnings in Greek and Turkish, indicating they were untaxed. She was arrested for in flagrante offenses, and both the vehicle and goods were seized. She was released after agreeing to an out-of-court settlement and paying €1,000.

In a separate inspection, customs officers intercepted a man carrying 12 grams of green, dry plant material resembling cannabis. Police were notified and took custody of both the suspect and the substance for further investigation.
