Cyprus: 16 Migrants Detected, 7 Arrested in Peristerona

PERISTERONA — Officers from the Green Line Surveillance Unit of the Cypriot police identified 16 irregular migrants in the village of Peristerona, leading to the arrest of seven individuals suspected of facilitating their travel.

According to Alithia, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on the village’s main road, where three “suspicious” vehicles were spotted.

The cars were carrying a total of 16 migrants, including eight children.

The seven people in the vehicles were detained on charges of aiding and abetting irregular migration and were each issued an eight-day detention order.

The migrants were transferred to the Pournara reception center in Kokkinotrimithia.

Authorities have not released information regarding their nationalities.
