Police arrested an 18-year-old man yesterday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of illegal possession and transportation of explosives.
The arrest was carried out by two off-duty police officers.
Around 3:00 p.m. yesterday, the two students of the Police Academy, who were in uniform but off-duty, stopped a motorcycle in Nicosia. The motorcycle did not have registration numbers, and the driver was not wearing a protective helmet.
The driver, an 18-year-old resident of Nicosia, was found to be in possession of three packages containing a total of 20 factory-made firecrackers.
The 18-year-old was subsequently charged in writing and released to be summoned later.
The Lakatamia Police Station is investigating the case.
