PAPHOS — President Nikos Christodoulides said Tuesday the government is responding swiftly and decisively to address Cyprus’s chronic water scarcity, describing the issue as a decades-old challenge rather than a crisis born in 2025.
Speaking at a district-wide gathering in Paphos, Christodoulides highlighted the installation of a mobile desalination unit in Kissonerga as one of the country’s most critical infrastructure projects. The €14.7 million facility is already under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of October.
The president reviewed progress on ongoing development initiatives and outlined plans for new ones, emphasizing that water management remains a top priority.
He said the government’s strategy includes both emergency measures and long-term solutions aimed at reducing dependence on rainfall and securing sustainable water supply for future generations.
