LARNACA — Cyprus recorded a 67% drop in irregular migrant arrivals from January through August compared to the same period last year, the deputy minister for migration and international protection said Tuesday.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Kivisili Community Council, the deputy minister said departures of third-country nationals rose by 21% over the same period.

The figures reflect a shift in migration trends amid tighter enforcement and expanded return programs.

The minister emphasized that the government’s strict migration policy does not tolerate criminal behavior by foreign nationals.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen border controls and improve coordination with European partners.

The meeting was part of a broader outreach initiative to address local concerns and update communities on migration developments.
