FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Archbishop Georgios on Sunday expressed confidence in continued collaboration between the Cypriot and Roman Catholic churches following the election of Pope Leo XIV.
Speaking at a Mother’s Day event in Cyprus, Georgios emphasized that for his church, “the institution and not the person who represents it is what is important.”
He said he believes ongoing dialogue between Rome and Cyprus will progress, allowing Christian unity to stand out in a world dominated by other religions.
Georgios added that he plans to visit Rome soon and will extend an invitation for Pope Leo XIV to visit Cyprus.
Leo XIV was elected as the 267th pope on Thursday, becoming the first American to hold the role.
