Archbishop Georgios called on the public to reflect on the value and purpose of life through the message of the Resurrection, saying in his Easter encyclical that the history of the Greek nation mirrors periods of hardship followed by renewal.
He said the Greek people have faced many “Golgothas” throughout their long history and, with God’s help, have always moved toward “Resurrection.” For that reason, he added, the 52 years since the island’s division should not discourage Greek Cypriots, noting that “injustice cannot prevail” and that this should reassure those who have lost hope.
“If we stop struggling and accept crucifixion, we will be led to national death,” the Archbishop said.
He stressed that unity and shared purpose across the Greek nation are essential for achieving the goal of liberation, alongside unwavering faith.
Referring to the upcoming elections, Georgios urged voters to act responsibly given the importance of the period for the Cyprus issue. He said protest votes should be directed toward capable candidates rather than those lacking political understanding or interest in society’s problems.
