Cyprus has begun administering the first vaccinations to cattle as part of efforts to contain the spread of foot‑and‑mouth disease, authorities said Thursday.
The initial phase uses 10,000 vaccine doses delivered from the island’s northern areas. A further 529,000 doses supplied by the European Commission are expected to arrive in the coming days.
Priority is being given to farms within the three‑kilometre restriction zone around Aradippou. Vaccinations will then expand to the wider ten‑kilometre surveillance zone.
According to state radio, the campaign aims to halt transmission quickly and protect livestock across affected districts.
