Cyprus has temporarily closed two public viewing sites for the island’s protected mouflon population as a precaution against the spread of foot‑and‑mouth disease.
The facilities at Platania and Stavros tis Psokas — both normally open to visitors — will remain shut to safeguard animal health and limit any risk of transmission. The department said adherence to preventive measures is essential for protecting wildlife and preserving the island’s biodiversity.
The mouflon, known locally as the agrino, is Cyprus’s most emblematic wild mammal and a strictly protected species found only on the island
