FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE  – The Consumer Protection Service has imposed its first fine for breaching the maximum selling price of bottled water, Director Konstantinos Karagiorgis announced on state radio.

The €5,000 fine was levied against the company managing the GSP stadium canteen, which was found selling bottled water for €1 instead of the regulated price of 60 cents.

Karagiorgis emphasized that officers are monitoring compliance with the decree daily to ensure adherence.

The Consumer Protection Service in Cyprus has implemented a legally binding price cap on bottled water to protect consumers from overpricing, particularly in areas where competition is limited.

The cap, set at €0.60 for a 500ml bottle, applies to specific public venues such as airports, beaches, museums, archaeological sites, hospitals, zoos, theaters, and sports venues.

This regulation came into effect on February 28, 2025.
