Police in Cyprus are launching a nationwide crackdown on motorcycles and mopeds, as chilling new figures reveal 14 riders and passengers have already been killed on the island’s roads this year alone.
The week-long operation kicks off tomorrow, Monday September 7, and runs through to Sunday September 13, with traffic police officers set to carry out targeted checks across the island throughout the campaign.
Officers will be paying particularly close attention to helmet use, drink- and drug-driving, speeding, and other dangerous and reckless behaviour on the roads.
The grim toll for 2026 so far makes for sobering reading: between January 1 and September 3, 14 motorcycle and moped riders and passengers lost their lives in road collisions — including 12 motorcycle riders, one moped rider, and one motorcycle passenger.
