Authorities in Cyprus may now proceed with the forced return of Syrian asylum seekers and other foreign nationals whose applications have been rejected.
The newspaper Fileleftheros said the country’s Administrative Court for International Protection issued a series of decisions upholding the Migration Department’s rejection of several asylum claims.
The rulings confirm that the decisions were lawful, effectively opening the door for deportations.
The report noted that Cypriot authorities could now compel individuals with final negative decisions to return to their home countries.
It also said that around 4,500 Syrians have voluntarily returned to Syria in recent months.
