FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — Authorities in Cyprus are investigating a wave of fraudulent emails sent to university students, warning them of outstanding tuition fees and directing them to make payments to unauthorized bank accounts.
The Cybercrime Unit has it has received multiple complaints from both private universities and individual citizens.
The emails, sent in bulk, appear to target students enrolled at various institutions across the island.
Officials said the messages falsely claim students owe tuition balances and include payment instructions linked to specific bank accounts.
The practice is not consistent with standard procedures used by Cyprus’ educational institutions.
Students who receive such emails are urged to exercise caution, avoid making any payments, and immediately contact their university for verification.
