FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A fire early Sunday caused extensive damage to an abandoned two-story building in the Turkish Cypriot district of Larnaca, leading to the collapse of its wooden roof and first-floor ceiling.

The blaze broke out around 3:40 a.m. on Mehmet Ali Street, according to Fire Service Press Secretary Andreas Kettis. Four fire engines from Larnaca stations responded to the scene, battling intense heat to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.

Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, extinguished the flames but remain on-site to address lingering hotspots.

Investigations by the Police, Fire Department, and Electromechanical Service are underway, though the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Due to structural instability, experts have been unable to safely access the site. Authorities are exploring all possible causes.
