FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE- A fire near the new port of Limassol late Monday night caused panic among residents after explosions were heard in the area.

Speaking to CyBC, Fire Service Chief Inspector Nikos Longinos said the fire broke out around 11:15 p.m. in a field adjacent to the port, reportedly triggered by fireworks set off by unknown individuals.

A fire truck was dispatched to the scene, extinguishing the flames before they could spread to port facilities and nearby shipping containers. The fire damaged two stationary vehicles, Longinos said.

He added that the loud explosions, which led to confusion in the area, were caused by scattered fireworks found within a 30-meter radius.
