FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus’s Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos concluded an official visit to Manama, Bahrain, on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, tourism, and education.
Kombos met with Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani to discuss prospects for collaboration and emphasized issues of regional stability, maritime security, and interfaith dialogue. Preparations for Cyprus’s EU Council presidency in 2026 were also highlighted.
He was received by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, reaffirming the commitment to deepen relations between the two nations. Meetings with Bahrain’s Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, addressed connectivity and transportation.
Kombos held talks with Vice Admiral George Wikoff, Commander of the U.S. 5th Fleet, on regional developments, and briefly met Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi and New Jersey Governor Philip Murphy.
At a roundtable hosted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, Kompos underscored Cyprus’s role as a reliable regional partner. He also visited Bahrain’s Diplomatic Studies Academy to engage with students. ■
