FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos raised concerns over the continued detention of five Greek Cypriots by Turkish Cypriot authorities, calling the arrests unlawful.
Speaking at an informal meeting of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council in Copenhagen, Kombos urged EU officials to address the issue, which he described as a violation of human rights.
The five individuals have been held since July 19 after allegedly entering a restricted military zone in the Turkish-controlled north of the island. Turkish Cypriot media reported the case will continue Tuesday, with the detainees remaining in custody.
Cypriot officials have condemned the detentions as politically motivated, citing rising tensions ahead of elections in the north and stalled reunification talks.
