FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus has launched its first mobile desalination unit at the Moni power station, marking a key step in efforts to bolster the island’s water supply amid ongoing drought conditions.
The unit began trial operations late Tuesday, delivering high-quality water to the national network. The installation is part of a broader initiative involving 13 units imported from the United Arab Emirates.
Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou welcomed the development, noting that work continues to gradually ramp up water production. Technicians from the UAE are assisting local crews with the rollout.
Authorities say the mobile units will help ease pressure on reservoirs and improve water distribution across Limassol and other districts. Full-scale operations are expected to expand in the coming weeks.
