Cyprus interior ministry on alert as Civil Defence teams assist Akrotiri residents

The Interior Ministry said Monday it remains on full readiness under the “Estia” contingency plan as authorities monitor developments near Akrotiri following the overnight drone strike on the British base.

Civil Defence teams have been deployed to the Akrotiri municipal area to brief residents and help transport people to temporary shelters if needed. Patrols are also being carried out to assist anyone requiring help.

The ministry said precautionary guidance is being issued to the public. Because of the tense situation, residents in affected areas are being informed that sirens may sound if necessary, with additional announcements made through various channels.

Shelters can be located through the “SafeCY” mobile application or by contacting the Civil Defence Operations Control Centre at 22‑403451 or 22‑403452.

Authorities advised that if no shelter is nearby, people should remain in a secure indoor location such as underground parking areas or rooms with solid walls.
