Cyprus is seeing a surge in influenza A cases, prompting public health officials to urge caution as seasonal infections climb. Fifteen patients have died during the current wave, according to the state health services organization, OKYPY.
Spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said public hospitals are operating at 90 percent capacity. He noted that OKYPY is in contact with private hospitals, but their ability to assist is limited because they lack fully structured internal‑medicine and pulmonology wards.
For now, he said, the priority is maintaining a balance between admissions and discharges to keep the system functioning under pressure.
