Serious shortages have been recorded in available blood supplies, with the head of the blood centre, Andri Panayiotou, issuing a dramatic appeal for donors to come forward to blood banks, warning that human lives could otherwise be put at risk.
Speaking on a morning television programme, Panayiotou said the shortfall occurs every year, unfortunately, mainly during the period from late July to early August, as a result of the summer holiday season.
