FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Authorities in Cyprus have seized 288 kilograms of cannabis in the first three months of the year, reflecting a sharp increase in drug confiscations.
The amount represents nearly one-third of the 723 kilograms seized throughout 2024, signaling a rise in drug circulation and use.
The Drug Enforcement Unit reported that the age of individuals involved in drug trafficking is decreasing, with suspects as young as 22 to 23 years old being caught with large quantities intended for commercial distribution.
Data from the Police Narcotics Branch shows 170 of 278 individuals prosecuted in 284 drug-related cases through April 7 were Greek. Confiscated substances included:
– 228 kilograms of cannabis
– 2.5 kilograms of cocaine
– 10 cannabis plants
– 170 grams of cannabis resin
– 67 grams of psilocybin mushrooms
– 313 grams of methamphetamine
– 11 LSD cards
– 270 tramadol tablets
– 700 grams of medical drugs containing cannabis
Authorities continue to monitor the growing drug trade and implement enforcement measures to curb trafficking.
