Cyprus launches EU‑funded program for assisted voluntary returns of third‑country nationals

Cyprus’ Department of Migration is implementing a new program to support assisted voluntary returns for third‑country nationals, the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection said in a statement.

The project, funded jointly by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and the Republic of Cyprus, has a total budget of €8.39 million. It runs from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026.

Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen existing return mechanisms and ensure that voluntary returns take place under conditions of safety, dignity and respect for human rights.

The program also seeks to reinforce administrative structures involved in return procedures, improve cooperation with relevant authorities and promote sustainable solutions for migrants wishing to return to their countries of origin.

The project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to improve migration‑flow management and advance a humane and effective migration policy aligned with national and EU guidelines.
