A significant water outflow from the Mavrokolympos Dam’s discharge tunnel was detected by an employee of the Water Development Department (WDD) on Sunday.
WDD officers immediately went to the area, where they remained throughout the night, to ensure that the amount of water would not cause damage to property and/or passersby.
At this stage, WDD officials are investigating the causes of the leak, so that appropriate measures can be taken to manage the particularly serious situation that has arisen.
